1 Year Anniversary!

I can't even believe that we made it one year already!

It is crazy to think that when we opened just one year ago, my little bean was only 7 months old- not crawling, walking or talking. She was my little sidekick. We were attached at the hip- literally! She rode in the sling mostly, and when she got tired we switched to our mei-tai. She has gotten so use to "helping" me show people how to wear carriers, that she runs to me when I say "Bean, wanna help mama show how to sling?"

It has definately been a learning year; not only about business, but about myself and what I am capable of. Sometimes I go home in tears, wondering how and why I do it all, but most days I am amazed and full of joy at the love and friendship I experience on a daily basis. I have made so many lifelong friends, and so has Kinlee. I don't know where I would be without some of these newfound friends.

I feel completely blessed and am so excited about the years to come. This next year we will welcome another baby to the Sugar and Spice family, adding a whole other element to our otherwise crazy lives.

I thank you all for being there, not only as good customers, but at good friends, confidants, and fellow parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, families and friends on this journey we call life.

Play Groups

Sugar and Spice, A Children's Ecotique is host to the Luna Mom's Playgroup ( http://classes.strollerstrides.net/anchorage/playdays/index.aspx )

They meet in our back playroom on Wednesday's around 11am-12pm. They always have a fun activity or snack for the kiddos- as well as lively conversation by the mommy's!

Sugar and Spice is also organizing a play group of its own, set to meet Thursday's at noon in our back playroom. This is meant to be a time of fun for mom's and kiddos! Feel free to bring a lunch, or stop by Peppercini's (next door to us--- delicious :o) and pick something up. We can play, eat and socialize!

Hope you can come to one of these fun playgroups sometime! We will soon be planning a weekend get-together as well, for all of you mom's that work outside of the home!

Sugar and Spice hosts it's first FIRST FRIDAY event!
We are having a Zag Bag party in which you can design your own reusable grocery tote, laptop case, diaper bag or mommy and me purses! There are MANY fabrics to choose from as well as many bag designs to choose from.

My friend, Sarah Schneider, will be our Zag Bag consultant on hand to help with and place our orders.

If you don't want to create a bag, still stop by and say hello!
We will have food from Peppercini's and will definately be having lots of fun!

NEW ARRIVALS

Today we received a BIG shipment of the new colored Klean Kanteen's!

They are already selling like HOT CAKES--- so come in to get yours! We have the 12, 18 and 27 ounces! All of which can either have a sippy top, sports bottle top or loop top!

We just sold out of our Safe Sippy's but just placed a new order today!

We also received a big shipment of new Selecta rattles, and Selecta push and pull toys! They are really cute!

Last week we also received our amber teething relief necklaces--- which are suprisingly a big hit. We got 12, 13, and 14 inch necklaces--- but soon found out that mommy's wanted them too, so we ordered 16, and 17 inch ones as well, which should be in tomorrow.

BREASTFEEDING ONSIES ON THEIR WAY--- hopefully our funny onesies will be in regarding breastfeeding in all its glory! As well as some onesies with my logo on them (children's sized t-shirts soon to come :o)

Grand Opening Celebration (so far :o)

So today was our first day in business!

Oh what fun!

I got to meet so many new cool people today, and am so excited to continue this journey!

We had food from Peppercini's-- including pineapple in the morning, sandwiches and wraps around lunch, and desserts in the afternoon! YUMMY!

Many of my friends stopped by (thanks guys!) and I had tons of support!

I am so excited for what is still to come.

GRAND OPENING

Well it's official, no matter how hard I have to work, morning, noon and night-- we will be having our grand opening July 25th-27th!!
Most of my product lines have arrived, paint is being put on the walls as we speak, the floor are going to be prepped and started on tonight, and we are READY to move in!
This coming weekend and week following are going to be CRAZY busy! We will be moving everything in, pricing everything, setting up displays, etc. etc. etc.!

BABY SOY IS HERE!!
I got my shipment of Baby Soy today- a wonderful eco-friendly clothing company who's clothing is partially made from soy-bean fiber! (www.babysoyusa.com)
The colors are GORGOUS!! And I can't wait to get it all out of the box and hung up!

My Kate Quinn Organics order is also on its way! They are another eco-friendly clothing company that makes clothing from 100% certified organic cotton. (www.katequinnorganics.com)

I am also waiting to hear back from another potential retail storefront location. It looks pretty promising, but there again, so did the last one!

I will definately let everyone know what I find out later this week!

MORE MORE MORE!!

Well folks I find out tomorrow if I got the retail spot I REALLY want, so cross your fingers!

Meanwhile I am being bombarded by daily shipments of stuff.

A week ago I got my glass bottles. A few days ago I got my Bobux shipment (some of which I am sending back), and my mobiles. Yesterday I got my Little Twig order, and today I got my Smart Mom teething bling order! I also just placed my Baby Soy order, and am in the final stages of my Kate Quinn, and Baby Planet orders.

I am also going to carry a line of hair care for little kids called Rock Star Baby Organics--- it is adorable stuff! As well as books from Barefoot Books, tableware from Bambu, organic moses baskets and wooden stands, and wooden toys from various toy companies.

Its coming along folks---stay tuned to see if I get the spot I really want!!!

First Shipments Coming in Daily!

I'm so excited to announce that my house is full of stuff for the boutique!

Yes, that's right, I don't have an actual storefront yet, but am slowly but surely working on that. I've been looking at a couple places, and one in particular, for a month or so now, but am just waiting to hear back if they "approved" me. Meaning, if they want me in their building :o)

I just got in my first shipment of Huggalugs, which are a brand of Australian babyleg type things :o) They are really cute! I got a variety of different solid colors and a bunch of cute new designs!

I just placed my glass bottle order too--- darn those shipping charges! I guess since we live in Alaska AND they are a fragile good, they have to charge more. I literally got charged almost $2 extra PER bottle to ship them here! Crazy, but TOTALLY worth it!

I also just ordered my first shipment of body and skin care from a company called Little Twig. It is a company that uses eco-friendly packaging, and has fragrance, sulfate free stuff for sensitive babies (like my rugrat :o)

I am also finalizing my first Bobux order, and am having a tough time trying to pick which ones I want. There are so many to choose from, that I am getting overwhelmed! I THINK I figured out my final order, but its only midnight folks, I could dwell on it all night if I want to :o)

This weekend I am going to spend a few hours getting my clothing orders together. I've decided to carry Baby Soy, Kee-Ka, Kate Quinn, Happy Green Bee, IPlay, and Sprout. I am only going to carry a select few items from a few of the companies, but have found that there really is a lot of organic "green" clothing out there if you just look! Some of it is pretty cute too :o)

Its fun to order stuff, but I really need to finalize a lease or I'm gonna be a woman with a lot of product and no store!

Dreams--- not just hidden in the stars

For the last few years I have been dreaming and dreaming about having my own store. Not just any old store, but a beautiful, contemporary children's boutique. Somewhere that I would see and treat as a home away from home. A place where people can come not only buy things for their children, but a place to hang out with their children, talk about issues and problems, a place to hold meetings and groups, a place to just BE!

Soon after my daughter was born I realized that nothing of this nature even exsisted in my area. I felt alone, isolated and overwhelmed. I then knew that I must make it happen.

My dream is not to get rich off this store, or even make tons of money, I just dream of a place where people can find mid-ranged priced children's clothing, accessories, shoes, furniture and goods of high-quality. Not only of high-quality, but of a quality that has the least effect on the environment, the world, our children, their health, and our future.

This dream is slowly making its way to reality.

I am in the process of opening a store just as I have described. This store will carry eco-friendly products such as: furnishings featuring natural sustainable woods, toys made from bisphenol A-free plastics, shoes made from eco-leather and colored with water based dyes, bottles and sippy cups made from glass, silicone and stainless steel, and clothing made from soybean fibers.

I am EXTREMELY excited about this. This is a dream come true, and one that has been waiting in the wings for quite some time.

Watch out world, here I come.
